The Daily Eastern News staff won a combined 20 awards at the Illinois College Press Association conference Saturday in Chicago.
The News won four first place awards, eight second place awards, two third place awards and six fourth place awards.
The contest is divided up by school size, with The News competing in the medium-sized category for schools with 3,000-6,999 full-time enrolled students.
Editorial adviser Tim Drachlis attended the conference and said he was delighted by the coverage produced by The News.
“The breadth of these awards show all the great work that these student journalists do on a daily basis. I’m so proud of them,” Drachlis said.
Overall
The News won first place in website general excellence and earned an honorable mention for print general excellence.

Feature Reporter Aidan Cusack won second place for in-depth reporting for his story on local soybean farmers.
Former Design Editor Rob Le Cates won second place for video storytelling for his story on land conflict.
Former Reporter Ethan Vine won third place in the feature story category for his story on the Charleston area churches food pantry.
Editor-in-Chief Alli Hausman won an honorable mention for headline writing for “Not just funny business: What 20 years of tomfoolery looks like for The Clockwork Clown.”
Sports
Sports Editor Gabe Newman won second place in the sports game story category for his story when Eastern Illinois University lost to Little Rock in the men’s baseball championship.
Assistant Sports Editor Payton Liggins won second place in the sports feature category for her story covering Joe McNab coming back from paralysis and returning to the lineup.

Photo Editor Patrick Schmitz won first place in the sports photo category for the photo “Call at the plate.”
Former Photo Editor Sia DeyKoontz placed second in the photo essay category for the unofficial Holi festival and won second for the sports photo category for her photo “Celebration”.
Copy Chief T.J. Seputis won second in the news photo section for his photo on a house fire in Charleston.
Former Reporter Cam’ron Hardy earned an honorable mention in the news photo section for his photo on a vigil held on campus last winter.
Le Cates earned an honorable mention in the feature photo section for his photo “proposal”.
Opinion
News Editor Luke Brewer and Hausman got first place in the editorial section for their work on EIU’s alerts, conduct failed campus community.
Former Sports Reporter Drew Farrell got second place for his column RFK Jr. is wrong about autism.
Hausman also received an honorable mention for her work on the DEI editorial.
Design
Le Cates won first and third place for sports page design for streak continues and players to watch.
Design Editor Bryce Parker received an honorable mention for front page layout for 44 axed.
