The show is at 9 p.m. Saturday at Macs’ Uptowner, located at 623 Monroe Avenue.

Cover is $2, and audience members must be 21 and over.

Caleb Cook Band has been entertaining central Illinois country music lovers with a mix of rock-infused original songs and true-to-tradition classic country covers.

Caleb Cook Band originated from Champaign.

The band consists of lead guitarist and vocalist Caleb Cook, bassist Andrew Kauffman, and drummer Norm Miles.

The three have been playing together for one year.

Caleb Cook said audience members can expect a lively show.

“I call it ‘honky-tonk swing,’” he said. “We play danceable old-timey country songs.”

Cook said the band will perform an equal mix of covers and originals.

“We do our own take on traditional cover songs,” said Cook.

These covers include songs from Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, and Waylon Jennings.

Cook said they even do a little rockabilly, but “it’s more billy than rock.”

Caleb Cook Band has been creating original songs since they started playing together.

“We’ve been writing this whole last year,” said Cook. “It’s mostly country and old swing music.”

The band has been prepping for their first studio album.

Recordings begin early February and will feature other local musicians.

Cook said the album is set to debut in 2016.

Cook said he’s excited to be performing at Macs’ Uptowner again this Saturday.

“That’s my favorite band in the world,” said Cook. “The bar is cool. It’s feel good and laid back. It has a nice stage and nice sound system. It’s a great neighborhood bar.”

Cook used to perform a solo acoustic act there every Sunday, and has been returning to Macs’ Uptowner for the past 10 years.

Macs’ Uptowner provides a dance floor, lounge, and billiards room.

Caleb Cook Band fans can find the band performing every Wednesday evening at Rose Bowl Tavern in Urbana.
