The female Panther of the Week is going to Viola Smith from the softball team.
The freshman infielder from Rockford went 3-for-6 with two home runs and drove in four RBIs in Eastern’s weekend sweep of Tennessee Tech.
Smith’s two home runs both came in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader. She hit her first one in the third inning. It was a solo home run that just cleared the centerfield fence and sparked a five run inning for the Panthers. Her second home run of the game came in the fifth inning, a solo shot to make it 6-0.
In Sunday’s series finale, Smith drove in a pair of runs on a gap-splitting double to left-center field in the third inning.
Smith had four career hits, and all four are extra base hits with three of the four being home runs.

The male Panther of the Week is going to Alex Stout from the men’s track and field team.
The junior from Charleston won the men’s shot put at the Indiana State Gibson Invite over the weekend.
Stout won the event with a throw of 54 feet and two inches.
Stout also finished in eighth place in the hammer throw, but recorded the seventh-best result in school history with a throw of 184 feet and one inch.
The Panthers recorded three first place finishes across both teams at the two-day event.
