The first Panther of the Week is going to Bryce Riggs from the baseball team.
The junior right-hander from Cicero, Indiana, pitched a complete seven innings in Eastern’s 2-0 win over Florida A&M on Saturday.
Riggs allowed two baserunners, one hit and one walk, and struck out six batters.
Riggs was named the OVC pitcher of the week for his efforts.
EIU baseball won two out of its three games against Florida A&M in the opening weekend of the season.
The second Panther of the Week is going to Meechie White from the men’s basketball team.
The junior guard from Louisville, Kentucky, led the Panthers with 19 points in Eastern’s 78-72 win over Little Rock on Saturday.
White made all six of his free throws in the final 56 seconds of the game to help Eastern pull away.
It was an important win for the Panthers, who earned the tiebreaker over Little Rock with the season split and are now tied with the Trojans for seventh and the final two places in the OVC tournament.
