Panthers of the Week: Christina Martinez Mundo, Chad Smith

The female Panther of the Week is going to Christina Martinez Mundo from the volleyball team.

The senior libero/defensive specialist from San Juan, Puerto Rico helped the Panthers sweep the Little Rock Trojans 3-0 on Friday and Saturday.

Martinez Mundo led the team with 22 digs on Friday’s win. Martinez Mundo also recorded three assists during Friday’s game.

Less than 24 hours later, Martinez Mundo led the team again with 13 digs throughout Saturday’s game. She also recorded an additional three assists against Little Rock.

Martinez Mundo is currently ranked 11th in the nation for digs per set as she averages 5.34 digs per set.

The male Panther of the Week is going to Chad Smith from the men’s soccer team.

The junior goalkeeper from Cincinnati, OH helped the Panthers clinch a win over the Liberty Flames in the Ohio Valley Conference tournament.

Throughout the 90 minutes of regular play and 20 minutes of extra time, Smith recorded nine saves to force a shootout between both teams.

Smith saved three out of four shootout attempts to help the Panthers win the shootout 3-1 Sunday afternoon.

Eastern came into the OVC Tournament as a six seed. Liberty was ranked as a three seed.
