Triple threat

With the announcement of the pending marriage of Tom Cruise (above) and Katie Holmes in Italy, the Daily Eastern News takes at look at the top sports marriages. Hollywood has had more than its fair share of celebrities and athletes.

From Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe to Tony Parker and Eva Longoria, celebrity and sports have a common bond. Here are the top three sport marriages:

1. Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi –

It’s more than love on this court. Graf has won 22 major championships. She won seven singles’ Wimbledon titles and in 1988 won the U.S., Australian, French and Wimbledon championships. Agassi, recently retired at the U.S. Open, has won 60 singles’ titles.

The two have been an item since 1999 and have two children. One has to wonder what sport the two children will grow up playing.

2. Dennis Rodman and Carmen Electra – A combination of Baywatch and the Bulls. His defense and her ability to save lives made for one hot couple. Although the couple split after a few short months of holy matrimony, she was a superstar on the beach and he was a superstar on the court. And just plain weird off of it.

3. David Beckham and Posh Spice- The futbol phenom and a vocalist for the Spice Girls makes up the most well-known couple in England. Beckham lead the English team to the quarterfinals of the World Cup in 2006. And Posh got plenty of camera time during his games.
