Golf, tennis finish 2023 seasons

Eastern’s men’s and women’s golf and women’s tennis teams all represented EIU at their respective Ohio Valley Conference Championships over the last week and a half.

Take a look at how the teams ended their seasons:

Men’s golf:

The men’s golf team finished 8th out of nine teams in the OVC tournament that took place April 23 to April 26 in Cape Girardeau, Mo., at the Dalhousie Country Club.

Keegan Gowin was EIU’s top finisher as he placed in a tie for 22nd place with a 54-hole total of 225. Preston Smith placed 30th with a 54-hole total of 229.

Pierce Allord and Trey Oswald finished in a tie for 32nd with a 54-hole total of 232 each. In last for the Panthers was Ben Lanman who finished in 36th with a 54-hole total of 233. Lanman had the team’s best single round with a 74 in the third round.

Women’s golf:

The women’s golf team finished 7th out of seven teams in the OVC tournament that took place April 16 to April 18 in Muscle Shoals, Ala., at the Robert Trent Jones at the Shoals course.

Katelind Winterland was EIU’s top finisher as she placed 24th with a 54-hole total of 254. She has EIU’s best round total in the third round as she shot a 78. Right behind her were Ava Boehm and Lindsey Hastings who placed in a tie for 25th as they both had a 54-hole total of 257.

Ashley Chen finished in fourth for the Panthers as she placed 29th overall with a 54-hole total of 263. In last for EIU was Isabel Spanburg who placed 30th overall with a 54-hole total of 281.

Men’s tennis:

The men’s tennis team finished in last place in the south division of the Horizon League. They were unable to advance to the Horizon League championship.

They finished the season 5-15 overall and 1-9 in conference. Thomas Wallace was EIU’s best singles player as he finished 9-11 overall and 4-6 in the Horizon League. The team finished 35-83 overall and 11-49 in conference in singles.

Alex Dinkov and Pau Riera finished the season as EIU’s best overall doubles pair. They finished 4-4 overall. Pau Riera and Antonio A. Streubel finished the season as EIU’s best conference doubles pair as they finished 2-0 in conference.

The team finished 19-28 overall and 6-15 in conference doubles.

Women’s tennis:

The women’s tennis team had a successful season overall. They competed in the OVC tournament as the #3 seed team.

They were able to defeat Southern Indiana which led them to the semifinals where they ended their season as they lost 4-2 to #2 SIUE. Elizaveta Bukraba-Ulanova was EIU’s singles player as she finished 16-7 overall and 4-1 in conference.

The team finished 79-61 overall and 18-12 in conference in singles. Madeline Monroy and Brittany Steven finished the season as EIU’s best doubles pair. They finished 13-7 overall and 2-0 in conference.

Overall the team finished 39-25 overall and 5-6 in the OVC in doubles. Elizaveta Bukraba-Ulanova earned OVC first team honors and Christine Gouws earned OVC second team honors.
