EIU spring sports update

Spring sports here at Eastern have been well underway the last few months. Let’s take a look at the standings and records of EIU’s spring sports:


Baseball

The EIU baseball team has a current overall record of 17-12 and a 1-5 OVC record, which places them in last in the conference.

Batting leaders:

Ryan Ignoffo has a .272 batting average, 31 hits, six home runs, and 30 runs batted in.

Cole Gober has a .267 batting average, 32 hits, five home runs, and 19 runs batted in.

Lincoln Riley has a .279 batting average, 31 hits, one home run, and 20 runs batted in.

Cade Zalewski has a batting average of .302, 14 hits, six home runs, and 16 runs batted in.

Jared Evans has a batting average of .375, 15 hits, two home runs, and five runs batted in.

Grant Lashure has a batting average of .353, 24 hits, and 11 runs batted in.

Logan Eickhoff has a batting average of .347, 17 hits, and six runs batted in.

Pitching leaders:

Ky Hampton has a 2.89 era and a 4-0 win/loss record.

Tyler Conkilin has a 6.55 era and a 3-3 win/loss record.

EIU’s pitching has been some of the best the conference has seen this season.

This has allowed for two pitchers to be awarded OVC Pitcher of the Week. Ky Hampton was awarded Pitcher of the Week February 27 and March 6. Tyler Conklin was awarded Pitcher of the Week April 3.

Baseball has several games to play as they play until mid-May. They have six OVC series left. After a 14-0 win over non-conference foe Western Illinois, they will host Little Rock for a three-game series April 14 & 15.

Softball

The EIU softball team has a current overall record of 21-15 and an OVC record of 9-2. They currently sit behind SEMO in the standings as they are currently second in the OVC.

Batting leaders:

Aniya Holt has a batting average of .419, two home runs, 13 hits, and five runs batted in.

Jaylen Prichard has a batting average of .362, one home run, 42 hits, and 15 runs batted in.

Rachel Kaufman has a batting average of .353, six home runs, 36 hits, and 23 runs batted in.

Lindy Milkowski has a batting average of .330, 11 home runs, 32 hits, and 30 runs batted in.

Kendall Grover has a batting average of .301, four home runs, 31 hits, and 20 runs batted in.

Pitching leaders:

Oliva Price leads the Panthers with a 2.19 era and a win/loss record of 9-3.

Rachel Kaufman has a 2.30 era and a win/loss record of 5-4.

Softball has quite a bit of the season left ahead of them as they play until early-May. They have four OVC series left as well as other games mixed in the schedule. After a home win against Saint Louis Wednesday evening, they will travel to Tennessee Tech for an OVC series matchup April 14 & 15.

Track & Field

The men and women of the track and field team have competed in three outdoor events so far this season. They competed in the EIU Big Blue Classic, the Texas Relays, the Bobcat Invitational, and Illinois Fighting Illini Challenge. They have brought home plenty of medals to Charleston so far this season.

Texas Relays Results:

Ramsey Hunt – 2nd place men’s long jump

*With this jump, Hunt now holds EIU’s record for the men’s long jump that was held for 49 years. He had a distance of 25’8.75″ (7.84m).

Adam Swanson – 9th place men’s mile run

Bobcat Invitational – Texas State Results:

Jahleel Perrin, Cameron Yarborough, Brailyn Johnson, and Ricky Johnson – 5th place in men’s 4x100m relay.

Illinois Fighting Illini Challenge Results:

Danielle Scaduto – 1st place in women’s javelin throw

Akiya Kollore – 2nd place in women’s 100m hurdles

Cameron Yarborough – 2nd place in men’s 100m dash, 4th place in men’s 200m dash

Porter Conroy – 2nd place in men’s high jump

Ramsey Hunt – 3rd place in men’s long jump

Jahleel Perrin, Cameron Yarborough, Brailyn Johnson, and Ricky Johnson – 2nd place in men’s 4x100m relay

Josiah Neal, Riley Baker, Damien Clay, and Greg Downs – 3rd place in men’s 4x400m relay

Zakiya Johnson, Taylor Wright, Hallee Thomas, and Akiya Kollore – 3rd place in 4x400m relay

With these results, EIU has had two athletes win OVC athlete of the week awards:

Akiya Kollore – OVC Female Track Athlete of the Week – April 12

Ramsey Hunt – OVC Male Field Athlete of the Week – April 5

The track & field team will next travel to the Indiana State Gibson Invite that will be held April 13-15.

Men’s Golf

EIU’s men’s golf team has competed in three golf tournaments so far this spring. They competed at UT Martin’s Carpenter Chaney Classic, Eastern Kentucky’s Daytona Beach Invitational, and Northern Kentucky’s The Jewell.

Carpenter Chaney Classic Results – February 10 & 11:

In the match-play style tournament, the team went 0-3 as they played Tennessee Tech, UT Martin, and Bellarmine.

They lost 6-0 to Tech, 5-0-1 to UT Martin, and 3-2-1 against Bellarmine.

Trey Oswald and Pierce Allord took the wins for Eastern that weekend. Allord and Preston Smith also had a tie each.

EKU Daytona Beach Invitational Results – March 6 & 7:

EIU placed 17th out of 18 teams in the tournament.

Ben Lanman was EIU’s top finisher as he tied for 63rd with a 54-hole total of 230.

Keegan Gowin was EIU’s second finisher as he tied for 77th with a 54-hole total of 233.

Pierce Allord was EIU’s third finisher as he tied for 82nd with a 54-hole total of 234.

Northern Kentucky – The Jewell Results – April 10 & 11

Eastern finished in 11th out of 13 teams in the tournament.

Keegan Gowin was EIU’s top finisher as he tied for 27th place with a 54-hole total of 220.

Ben Lanman was EIU’s second finisher as he tied for 45th with a 54-hole total of 224.

Pierce Allord was EIU’s third finisher as he tied for 48th with a 54-hole total of 225.

EIU has just one more regular season tournament as they travel to Ohio for the Wright State Invitational on April 16 & 17 before the OVC Championship in Cape Girardeau, Mo., on April 23-26.

Women’s Golf

The EIU women’s golf team has competed in all four of its spring tournaments and are set to travel to Alabama for the OVC Championship this weekend.

Gardner-Webb Women’s Intercollegiate Results – February 25 & 26

EIU finished in 6th place out of six teams in the tournament.

Ashley Chen was EIU’s top finisher as she placed in a tie for 25th place with a 54-hole total of 256.

Ava Boehmn placed second for EIU as she tied for 29th with a 54-hole total of 260.

Isabel Spanburg placed third for EIU as she placed 32nd with a 54-hole total of 283.

Cleveland State Nevel Meade Intercollegiate Results – March 20 & 21

Eastern finished 13th out of 13 teams in the tournament.

Ashley Chen led the way for EIU as she finished in a tie for 16th place with a 36-hole total of 158.

Ava Boehm finished in second for EIU as she finished in 32nd with a 36-hole total of 161.

Katelind Winterlind finished in third for EIU as she tied for 63rd with a 36-hole total of 171.

Northern Kentucky – The Julie Results – March 27 & 28

EIU finished in 8th out of 11 teams in the tournament.

Ava Boehm led the way for Eastern as she finished in a tie for 16th place with a 36-hole total of 152.

Ashley Chen finished in second for the panthers as she finished in a tie for 30th place with a 36-hole total of 157.

Isabel Spanburg finished third for EIU and in a tie for 42nd overall with a 36-hole total of 161.

Lindsey Hastings finished fourth for EIU and in 63rd overall with a 36-hole total of 174.

Indiana State Invite Results – April 2 & 3

Eastern finished 6th out of 6 teams in the tournament.

Ava Boehm was EIU’s top finisher as she shot a 36-hole total of 163 which landed her in a tie for 19th overall.

Ashley Chen finished in second as she shot a 36-hole total of 164 which led her to tie for 23rd place overall.

Katelind Winterland and Isabel Spanburg were next up for EIU as they both tied for 26th place as they both shot 167 in the 36 holes.

Up Next: The Panthers will travel to Muscle Shoals, Ala., for the OVC Championship April 16-18.

Men’s Tennis

The EIU men’s tennis team is currently 5-12 overall and 1-6 in conference and have just three matches left in the season. EIU is in 5th place in the South Division of the Horizon League.

Singles records:

Pau Riera leads the Panthers with a 6-11 overall record.

Alex Dinkov has a 5-9 record for the Panthers.

Cameron Slabbert has a 4-12 record for Eastern.

Tyler Carlin has a 4-13 overall record for the season.

The team has an overall singles record of 32-68.

Doubles records:

Alex Dinkov and Pau Riera lead the Panthers with a doubles record of 4-4.

Tyler Carlin and Max Pilipovic-Kljajic have a doubles overall record of 4-5.

Cameron Slabbert & Thomas Wallace have a doubles record of 3-5.

The team has an overall doubles record of 16-25.

Up next for the Panthers is three more road Horizon League matches with Lindenwood, Tennessee Tech, and Southern Indiana.

Women’s Tennis

The EIU women’s tennis team is currently 12-9 overall and 3-1 in conference. They finished in 3rd in the conference overall and are preparing for the OVC Championship next Friday.

Singles records:

Elizaveta Bukraba-Ulanova leads the Panthers with an overall record of 15-17.

Madeline Monroy has an overall singles record of 13-7.

Lauren Ellis has an overall singles record of 13-9.

Christine Gouws has an overall singles record of 12-10.

The team has an overall singles record of 75-57 and they have a .568 winning percentage.

Doubles records:

Madeline Monroy and Brittany Steven lead the Panthers with a doubles record of 11-7.

Elizaveta Bukraba and Christine Gouws have an overall doubles record of 8-4.

Elizaveta Bukraba and Lauren Ellis have an overall doubles record of 5-1.

Jemma Booth and Lauren Ellis have an overall doubles record of 6-6.

Addison Brown and Christine Gouws have an overall record of 4-4.

The team has an overall doubles record of 35-24 and a .593 winning percentage.

The Panthers have finished up the regular season and will travel to Paducah, Ky., for the OVC Championship on April 21.

Beach Volleyball

EIU’s beach volleyball team is currently 2-5 overall and 1-4 in conference. They posted the program’s first ever home conference and home non conference wins this season.

Their first non-conference win was at home as they hosted McKendree March 28. Their first conference win was also at home as they hosted Lindenwood at home April 2.

They have five OVC matches as the season winds down next weekend before the OVC Championship on April 27-29. They are currently 6th in the conference.

Team leaders:

Catalina Rochiax and Kate Dean lead the team with a 3-4 record.

Christina Martinez Mundo and Tori Mohesky have a 2-3 record.

Kaitlyn Flynn and Sylvia Hasz have a 2-5 record.

Ella Collins and Emily Wilcox have a 2-5 record.

Lilli Amettis and Giovana Larregui Lopez have a 1-5 record.

Beach Volleyball will finish the regular season on the road as they face Lindenwood on April 16 and will then travel to Morehead State to play out the rest of the OVC games with Morehead, University of Tennessee – Chattanooga, UT Martin, Tennessee Tech.

They will then prepare for the OVC Championship on April 27-29 in Martin, Tennessee.
