Editorial: Please take advantage of free tests

Staff Editorial

Free COVID-19 tests were made available for all Eastern students on Wednesday and will also be available on Thursday on the South Quad.

We at the Daily Eastern News strongly urge all students who did not get tested on Wednesday or earlier to take advantage of the final opportunity to get a free test on Thursday. Tests are performed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with the time from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. reserved for immunocompromised people.

For students who did not get tested yet and are unsure of what to expect, the testing process is relatively quick and simple. You will need to sign up online before you head to the testing stations by filling out the form found at https://www.eiu.edu/covid/testing.php.

Once you arrive at the testing station, wait in line and sign in. The test only lasts for several seconds, and then you are good to go.

It is very important for as many people as possible to get tested. If you do get tested and your results are positive, you can be quarantined and reduce the risk of an outbreak occurring on campus. If you do not get tested, you may be positive, asymptomatic and never know. You could go about your business like normal and spread the virus.

Protocols in place on campus can help slow the spread, but it can be slowed more if everyone who has COVID-19 is quarantined as soon as possible.

Do not let the opportunity to get tested pass you by.
