Editorial: Stay safe on campus this semester

Staff Editorial

Being back on campus for this fall may feel strange. Most things have felt strange over the last six months. But it is important for things to feel strange. If things feel too normal, we may begin to fall into normal routines and stop following preventative measures for COVID-19.

We at The Daily Eastern News want the Eastern community to remember that, even though we are back on campus, the pandemic is still a very real threat.

Mask requirements and social distancing guidelines may seem like an annoyance, especially now that we are all back on campus with our friends that we may not have seen for months. But these guidelines are in place for a reason. They do not just protect you, but they protect everyone around you on and off campus.

At The Daily Eastern News, we strongly urge that everyone at Eastern follows these guidelines as much as possible. Wear your masks properly, with them covering your mouth and nose at all times. Use hand sanitizer and try not to touch you face with dirty hands. Make sure to socially distance whenever possible.

Following these guidelines makes it more likely that we can get through this semester without having to go completely online again.  It will be hard for everyone to avoid parties and large gatherings both on and off campus, but please try and resist the urge. Having fun is important, but doing it safely is more important.

Stay safe, follow the health and safety guidelines and have a good semester.
