LeBron to silence doubters

Give the man a break.

People across all publications and social media platforms have bashed LeBron James repeatedly.

“He isn’t clutch.”

“He is indecisive.”

“He’ll never be Jordan.”

“He’ll never get a ring.”

Those voices should be quieted Thursday night when the Heat win the 2012 NBA Finals over the Oklahoma City Thunder, but they won’t shut up.

“It’s not even his team. It’s Wade’s team.”

“He couldn’t do it by himself.”

“He couldn’t do it in Cleveland.”

“His hairline is a backcourt violation.”

The Decision and the celebration in Miami afterwards drew scrutiny, as it should have, especially after claiming championships before they are won.

But James has apologized and moved on. So should writers and haters across the nation.

James has made plenty of clutch shots in his career and taken control of the games in which those shots were drained. No, he won’t be Jordan.

Who knows if anyone can.

But he can be himself, the best player in the NBA. And if you think he’s going to let the Thunder come into Miami and steal a ‘W’ with a championship at his fingertips, you’re crazy.

If the man is healthy, he’ll be going berserk in Game 5.

He finally has the supporting cast he lacked in Cleveland, and they are more than pulling their weight.

No one can do it by themselves, even though James has made it seem possible in the past.

And people, while you’re laughing at James’ hairline, he’d probably laugh twice as hard after looking at your bank account.

The man had a $90 million shoe contract with Nike when he was 19. I’m sure he cries himself to sleep at night in his luxury mansion, thinking about criticism from complete strangers.

So it’s time to leave it alone.

He’s not out here acting like Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones (causing shootings), Sam Hurd (selling drugs), or Donte Stallworth (driving drunk and high, killing someone in the process).

The man runs campaigns to keep kids in school and protect them from abuse.

So, what will it take to clean up this man’s image?

Will he have to end his career on a Jordan-like note?

Probably. But if there’s anyone who could do it, it’s James.

This ring could be the momentum needed to kickstart a fantastic phase in the NBA that Jordan started in the ’80s, making the league a global source of entertainment.

Only time will tell, but in this crazy NBA era, who knows what could happen?
