Own goal costs Panthers

Last weekend, Eastern’s women’s soccer team allowed only its second goal of the season in the Ohio Valley Conference.

That goal was scored not by the opposing team, but by the Panthers on themselves.

Senior defender Erika Prazma accidentally knocked the ball in on a clearing attempt in front of her own goal.

She was one of only four Panthers to play all 180 minutes last weekend, along with fellow defenders Sam Balek and Hilary Blake, and red-shirt sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Taldone.

The Panthers spent a lot more time attacking Sunday than they did Friday, and this was exemplified by the volume of shots on goal.

Eastern took 14 shots, but only two were on-goal in Friday’s entire match with Eastern Kentucky, and the Panthers ended up losing 1-0.

In Sunday’s match, the Panthers took 15 total shots, 11 on goal, and scored twice.

The Panther attack was led Sunday by red-shirt junior forward Ashley Streid, who took four shots, all on goal, in Sunday’s contest with Morehead State.

Friday also saw the Panthers outnumbered in shots on goal by a margin of 8-2 against the Colonels, but Sunday’s contest was a different story as Eastern’s 11 shots on net almost tripled Morehead State’s four.

Around the OVC

Morehead State was shut out in a pair of road matches, as they lost 1-0 to Southern Illinois-Edwardsville and Eastern.
