Eastern goes Western

The Lewis Sisters will be bringing their own style of Country music to the Eastern Goes Western event at 7p.m. Wednesday in the 7th Street Underground.

The duo sister band is based out of Nashville, Tenn. and mainly performs country music.

The two sisters, Amy, 23, and Madeline, 18, both play the acoustic guitar and the mandolin.

Madeline also plays the ukulele.

Amy describes the duo’s musical performing style as a mix of Country/Americana vocals. In addition The Lewis Sisters will perform covers ranging from The Beatles to KT Tunstall.

In 2008, The Lewis Sisters won the CATZ Radio Contest in Nashville with their hit song, ” Beware the Wind.”

Amy said this performance will be a treat for both of the sisters, because The Lewis Sisters performances have become fewer as the sisters pursue different aspects of their lives such as college and jobs.

Amy is excited for their performance at Eastern.

“More than anything, I’d simply like to promote this show, it will be a lot of fun and we’re very excited about it.” Amy said.

Cassie Falco, the University Board Mainstage coordinator, is eager for the show after hearing The Lewis Sisters’ music online.

Falco found that the mellow vocals of the Lewis’s blend well together, which gives them an authentic country sound.

“The event should be really fun. The Lewis Sisters are really talented and I’m not a big fan of Country music, but I loved their music,” Falco said.

In addition to The Lewis Sisters performing there will also be an open mic session, where students can sign up and perform their music, raps, songs and spoken words.

There is no cost to attend the event and students are encouraged to come dressed in their best cowboy and cowgirl outfits. Prizes will be given to the winners.
