Rachel Galligan has been appointed as the new assistant women’s basketball coach.

Galligan, alumna and a former Eastern basketball star herself, said after playing professional basketball in Spain for a month and coaching at the high school level for a year, she is more than happy to be returning to Eastern.

“My best memories of my life were here,” Galligan said. “It’s like a second home for me. (I can’t) even put it into words-it’s the perfect fit.”

Galligan said right now she is most looking forward to recruiting new players with head coach Brady Sallee.

“I’m just going to do whatever I can to make this program better,” she said. “Listen to (Sallee) and learn from him.”

Galligan played for the women’s basketball team from 2006 until 2009.

She scored 1,891 points during her career at Eastern.
