Track: Team competes with the best

The Eastern track and field team traveled to South Bend, Ind. this weekend to face some of the top schools in the nation but refused to be intimidated as it recorded three top 10 finishers.

Junior sprinter Darren Patterson, sophomore jumper Queenie Adeboyejo and red-shirt senior hurdler Chandra Golden all finished within the top 10.

Patterson led Eastern finishing in sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21 seconds. Patterson’s time at Notre Dame surpassed his season’s best time of 22.03 from the EIU Mega Meet.

Abeboyejo finished in eighth place in the triple jump with a distance of 39″ 05′.

Golden had the final top 10 finish with a time of 8.85 in the 60m hurdles, which put her ninth place.

Senior thrower Kandace Arnold was unable to repeat her dominant performances from last seasons Notre Dame Meyo Invite when she had two seventh place finishes.

She was slightly off her mark, as she placed 12th in the weight throw and 18th in the shot put.

On Friday, she threw 56″04′ in the weight throw and on Saturday she marked at 44″07′ in the shot put.

The men’s distance relay team also had an impressive showing as they took third with a time of 10:04.98.

Participating in the event was senior Jason Springer, red-shirt junior Marcus Williams, sophomore Sean Wiggan and freshman Graham Morris.

The Panthers returned home with many notable showings and now will also be able to say that they witnessed the worlds fastest 400m time. Alabama’s Kirani James set the record at 45.79 on Saturday.

The Panthers will return to action this weekend when they travel to Ames, Iowa for the Iowa State Meet.
