Ready to sing

Greek Sing is one of the largest choral concerts in the Midwest.

Since the end of January, fraternities and sororities have been practicing numerous times a week to be ready for the audience they will perform in front of.

They will perform at 1 p.m. on Sunday in Lantz Arena.

For five minutes, each chapter will sing as a group, without any solos, because the event is based on the chapter, not a minority.

Only a group of six may sing separate from the entire choral ensemble.

Alyssa Obradovich, director for Sigma Sigma Sigma, said the event includes the whole house.

“It’s one of the few events our chapter participates in as a whole,” she said.

This is the senior communication studies major third and last time directing for Greek Sing and she said she is looking forward to it.

Tri-Sigma’s theme is “Famous Duets,” which includes the duets “I Got You Babe” by Sonny and Cher, “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” by Elton John and Kiki Dee, “It Takes Two” by Marvin Gaye and Kim Weston, and the “Dirty Dancing” theme “The Time of My Life.”

No song may be repeated more than once.

Tri-Sigma has been practicing four times a week and Obradovich tries to keep the group together, because not everyone is interested in music.

“We just have fun, joke around and not take things too seriously,” she said.

Each chapter is allowed to have a piano, drum set and three hand-held instruments, which also must be approved by the co-chairs.

Four judges will judge each chapter on diction, musicianship, tone, level of difficulty and overall presentation. The overall score will be based on a 1 to 10 scale.

The winning chapter will receive six points, while second place will receive five, third place four and fourth place three.
