Men’s soccer rolls to title

Missouri Valley preseason picks led the way on Saturday.

Junior forward, Brad Peters, and senior midfielder, Mick Galeski, who were also First Team All-MC picks last season, scored against Lipscomb.

The Panthers’ victory against the Bison (0-2) helped them claim the Bradley Holiday Inn City Centre Classic Title.

Eastern (2-0) won the tournament title with a 2-0 record and a plus three-goal advantage.

Bradley (2-0) also finished 2-0 and finished with a plus two-goal differential.

Peters slipped a ball past the Lipscomb goalie in the 18th minute and Peters assisted Galeski on a breakaway goal in the 69th minute against the Bison (0-2).

Peters was named to the all-tournament squad and Galeski was named the most valuable player of the tournament.

“We are very pleased and played much better in the second game,” said freshman forward Alex Harrison. “The new players are starting to come together.”

Harrison was one of those new players who came together Friday night. He scored the game-winning goal in overtime on Friday night against Belmont.

Friday night’s game remained scoreless until Harrison scored his first collegiate goal in overtime to give the Panthers a victory.

“It felt great to get my first goal under my belt,” Harrison said. “I’m glad I got a chance to show what I could do.”

Harrison was also named to the all-tournament squad.

Belmont’s Mete Ozkan scored a quick goal in the third minute of the game through junior goalkeeper Mark Hansen’s hands.

“We started off slow and allowed a goal early,” Eastern head coach Adam Howarth said. “We came out the second half and added a lot of pressure.”

Seven minutes into the second half Eastern tied the score with a header by sophomore defender Chris Pearson.
