He left the game in the fourth quarter with a bruised shoulder and was replaced by Julian Sample, who ended the game’s scoring with a 5-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Williams leads the conference with 130 rushing yards per game and ran for more than 100 yards for the sixth time this season.

Tennessee State (5-3, 4-0 OVC) is one of two undefeated teams in the OVC along with Tennessee-Martin, who defeated Eastern Illinois on Saturday.

They took control of the ball at their own 20-yard line and drove 54 yards in 10 plays to set up a 43-yard field goal attempt with five seconds remaining.

But sophomore kicker Gavin Hallford’s attempt fell short and the teams headed into overtime.
