Golf pitching gets students out of bed

When the weather was actually fall, 85 participants woke up early last Saturday to take part in golf pitching.

The intramural special event took place from 10:00 until 12:30. Dave Williams with 61 points won in the men’s division and Melodie Heberer with 30 points won in the women’s division.

Students were able to take 10 shots and hit a bull’s eye target that was 50 yards away. Points went from 3, 5, 7, 10 and the center being 12 points.

“It was a reason to get out of bed early,” said Bill Senese a senior physical education major and member of Lambda Chi Alpha. “It was a lot of fun even though I only hit the target once.

Senese came with Megan Frawley, also a senior physical education major.

“I signed up because no one else in my house did,” said Frawley.

Even with Senese help, Frawley was unable to hit the target but still had a good laugh.

Participates could not practice for this event and had to use a pitching wedge to hit the 10 golf balls.

In the men’s division, Kyle Kwoka was second with 59 points barley beating Brent Martin who scored 58 points. Jessy Riemer scored 21 points to take second place and Ashley Pearism followed with 14 points.

As for teams, Sigma Chi won the men’s team with 207 points and Sigma Pi took second with 198 points. Sigma Sigma Sigma won the women’s team with 58 points and Alpha Sigma Tau took second with 29 points.

“All Intramural Special Events are Individual events first, and the “teams” are added for more fun and competition,” said Intramural director Kevin Linker.
