The days of running around trying to get your teammates social security number and have them sign the paper is over thanks to the new online sign up site.

After taking survey’s to see if students would be interested in online scheduling, Intramurals Director Kevin Linker decided a change would be appropriate.

“Students enjoy the convenience of entering a team sport on their time instead of rushing to make the deadline at the Rec,” Linker said.

Students simply can go to the intramurals website and click on “Intramural Online Scheduling-Team Sports.” Right now only signing up for team sports can be done through the online site. Other activities such as tournaments and special events must be signed up through the Rec.

Students interested in starting a team or joining a team make an account and create a roster. There is also the option of becoming a free agent and joining a team that way.

Nicolle Stinson, a junior physical education major, has tried to use the online sign up. However, she had problems making an account and resorted to using the old way of signing up, she said. If students do run into problems, they can call Linker at 581-7000 for help.

“Right now, the system can only be used on a PC and with Internet Explorer,” Linker said. “I asked the vendor about changes for other browsers such as FireFox, and he said they’re working on it.”

Upon the first week of usage, seven soccer teams signed up without a problem.

“Students have shared that they enjoy the easy to use system, but more importantly, the convenience,” Linker said. “In the long run it’s the best way and wave of the future. Also, it saves paper!”
