Greek Week: Bingo and Games

Participants in the Greek Bingo competition on Friday afternoon were all in agreement as to why Greek Week is so important to them.

Uniting, as one and having fun.

“This gives us a chance to all come together as a unit, not separate,” said Kelli Young of Alpha Phi. A puppy accompanied Young as she took a break from the game.

“Bingo gets boring if you never win,” said Young.

Young saw other people win candles, candy, pizza and shirts. She said she likes seeing everyone come together and have fun. Young is also participating in tugs and is a Queen candidate.

Molly Minx of Alpha Sigma Alpha had a different take on winning. Her luck took a turn for the better when her fellow sister, Colleen Tapling, gave her playing card to Minx. Minx yelled BINGO within minutes of starting her first game. Minx received a ‘Sex in the City’ DVD.

“Greek Week sets a good example for non-Greek students,” said Minx.

Minx and Tapling explained that all of the houses receive points for participating and for winning different events. The house with the most points at the end, wins.

Jessica Vieu, of Sigma Sigma Sigma, said that she was great at Bingo and “will stay til [she] wins!” Vieu will participate in air-band and Greek sing.

She also agreed that during the year, the Greek houses are divided and this is the time of year that Greek’s come together for a common purpose, to raise money for St. Jude’s Hospital.

Kristin Mueller, Student Committee and also a Greek member, admitted that the goal for St. Jude’s of $10,000 has almost been met and they are very proud of that. She was also thrilled about the sunny weather.

“The weather is great and it’s very fun!” Mueller was a coordinator for rules and tournaments at this year’s events. Her message was clear, “Get everyone excited for pyramids and canoes. And this is an opportunity to show Greek’s in a positive light, and not a negative one. This brings all the houses together,” Mueller added.
