Intramurals: OVC champs, vehicle joyride win

6 p.m. Women’s Red Division

Cucoamungo (2-1) – 61

Sparklers (1-2) – 49

A 14-2 start for Cucoamungo led to a 61-49 win over Sparklers and a 2-1 record for the season for Cucoa. The team, led by Allison Voss, led 35-17 at the halftime whistle but Sparklers got it down to 10 in the 2nd half. Consistent three-point shots broaden the lead and Cucoamungo was able to run out the clock for a 13-point win.

Heavy Traffic (2-1) – 1

Yo Yo Yo (0-3) – 0 (FORFEIT)

Team filled with EIU soccer players fails to show again and receives loss number three.

8 p.m. Men’s A-League Bronze Division

OVC Champs (3-0) – 46

Dem Thomas Boys (1-2) – 36

How OVC Champs is not in Kevin Linker’s Top 10 is beyond anybody’s imagination. The only clear fact is that the over 100 people in attendance would disagree with OVC Champs being passed over. The bronze division leader that is filled with EIU football players was in control of this game for nearly the entire 40 minutes. OVC Champs used a 14-0 run right before halftime to make the score 28-12 and eventually it turned into a 28-15 halftime lead. Dem Thomas Boys leading scorer Lamont Truvillion had a disappointing night with only 3 points while shooting 1-9 from the field. OVC Champs were slowed down slightly by the 2-3 zone implemented by Dem Thomas Boys but the OVC Champs guards hit three-pointers all over the perimeter, specifically Alfred Osbourne and Ben Brown both hitting a pair of trifectas to secure the win. Fred Miller went 4 of 6 from the line to preserve the victory when Dem Thomas Boys were trying to foul and stop the clock. OVC Champs sent a message that they deserve to be in Linker’s Top 10 by the end of the week.

#3 Yettis Knee (2-1) – 23

Bleep Blop (2-1) – 42

Major upset of the night as third-ranked team in Men’s A-League gets beat by the slaughter rule (16+ lead with 2:00 left). The huge win for Bleep Blop sets up a matchup with OVC Champs Tuesday basically for the Bronze Division Championship.

9 p.m. Men’s A-League White Division

#2 Vehicle Joyride (3-0) – 63

Chitown Playas (1-2) – 35 (25+ point lead after 8 minute slaughter rule)

To say Vehicle Joyride made a statement Thursday night would be an understatement. Not only did they make their claim for the top spot in the Top 10 rankings with the 28-point blowout but they did it without star guard Matt Grandgeorge breaking a sweat. Grandgeorge only had 5 points, but his teammates stole the show and carried the White Division leading squad to a 39-20 halftime lead. Right before halftime, Joyride went on a 16-2 run to make this contest a laugher at best. Grandgeorge’s best highlight of the night was when the team captain drove down the lane took the contact and banked in a runner for a old fashioned three-point play. Joyride will go for four in a row Tuesday night when they face Scummy (1-1).

Old Men (2-1) – 76

Super Techmo Bowl (0-3) – 66

Old Men led by captain Luke Mauer and EIU backup quarterback Kyle Kissack get its second straight win in a game they never trailed in. They now move into second place in the White Division as Super Techmo Bowl is still the only team in its division that is still searching for a victory.
