Panthers host Billikens for non-conference doubleheader

The Panther softball team hopes to remain hot as they take on the Saint Louis Billikens in a doubleheader at 2 p.m. today at Williams Field.

Eastern (9-18) has won two straight and five of seven – the team’s best stretch all season.

Senior outfielder Adrienne May leads Saint Louis with a .409 batting average and 10 stolen bases. However, she’s the only Billiken hitting over. 300.

Saint Louis (13-20) is hitting .219 as a team, and its opponents are hitting .309 off the Billiken pitching staff.

A pair of freshmen pitchers leads the Billikens on the mound.

Freshman Ashley Levan leads the pitching staff with a 3.87 ERA. Levan also carries a 4-7 record. Lorena Floccari is 9-11 with a 4.11 ERA. She leads the team with 90 strikeouts and 138 innings pitched.

The Panthers bats have heated up as of late, and on the year, sophomore infielder Katy Steele has led the way.

Steele leads five Panthers hitting over .275 with a team-high .352 batting average. Sophomore catcher Sandyn Short leads the team with 16 RIBs, and sophomore infielder Chelsea Adams and Short have each belted a team-high 3 home runs.

On the hill, senior Heather Hoeschen has seen her ERA drop to 2.94 after a string of impressive starts. Hoeschen is holding opponents to a .269 batting average.

Eastern returns to Ohio Valley Conference play this weekend, heading to Tennessee Tech for a three-game series.
