Hawaii trip brings six games in four days

The Eastern softball team heads to the islands for six games in four days, as it takes part in the Bank of Hawaii Invitational in Honolulu.

The Panthers (3-6) are coming off a doubleheader sweep over Indiana State on Wednesday at Williams Field.

Sophomore infielder Katy Steele leads the team with a .500 batting average. As a team, the Panthers are batting .278.

Eastern opens up by taking on Loyola-Marymount at 3 p.m. Thursday. The Lions (8-5) are victorious in seven of their last eight and carry a .286 batting average.

Freshman pitcher Kyla Meeks leads the team with .556 batting average in nine games.

The Panthers then take on the San Diego Torreos at 9 p.m. Friday before playing host Hawaii at 11 p.m. to conclude the late-night doubleheader.

The Rainbows (11-10) are hitting .264 as a team, same as their opponents. They carry a 2.46 ERA.

Senior outfielder Tracie Uchima leads four Rainbows who hit over .300 with a .352 batting average.

The Panthers’ only action the following day is an exhibition with Tokyo at 5 p.m.

Eastern has a busy final day in Hawaii, playing two games on Sunday to complete the trip.

First, the Panthers face the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks (6-8) at 1 p.m. Miami has lost five of six.

The trip concludes with Eastern facing Winthrop (13-11) at 3 p.m.
