Please give White a little support

Attention all Eastern baseball players that step to the plate when senior pitcher Damon White is on the mound for you: please give White a little run support.

A guy that has a 1.79 earned run average in seven appearances should not have a record of 2-2. When he is consistently putting in six plus innings of work and has pitched two complete games, his record can be blamed on something else.

The Panthers have had games where they have scored as many as 21 runs, but it seems that every game they can’t score any, White is the one pitching for the Panthers.

Panther batters have scored just 19 runs during White’s 45 1/3 innings pitched. Even that number is misleading because they scored nine for him against Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, which can even be considered nothing compared to the 21 runs they gave Matt Tyson in the next game. And they also gave him five against Saint Xavier. That is about 74 percent of his run support in about only 34 percent of his innings pitched.

In both of White’s losses, he was given zero run support with the most recent being in the first game of last weekend’s three game series against Ohio Valley Conference foe Morehead State.

The other was against then-No. 18 Notre Dame, where White pitched 6 1/3 innings, giving up three runs and striking out four. The team did manage to score two runs in a 3-2 loss to the Irish, but White had already made his exit from the game.

The Panther fielders may have also prevented White from picking up an extra win. Against Xavier, White picked up a no decision in a 7-6 Eastern win. White pitched six innings, giving up five runs with only two of those being earned.

If that one error could have been avoided, White would have another ‘W’ in his column.

So what’s the deal fellas? Did White play a mean trick on you, and this is your way of paying him back? Did he bean a few of you in batting practice?

Whatever the case is, White could use a little more help, and if he hasn’t done any of the above things, he just might if he gets credited with another 2-0 loss.

All I know is that White is going to be the Panthers’ best pitcher that they will put on the mound all season. He isn’t going to be able to strike 10 batters out every game or last a complete nine innings every outing so a little support wouldn’t hurt.

White could easily win four more games this season as long as he gets a little more support. So please give White some help. He has definitely earned it.
