It was anything but Wunder–ful

Turnovers were the name of the game on Saturday for Eastern.

The Panthers ended the game with 30 turnovers against Morehead State.

The Eagles were able to swipe the ball from the Panthers 22 times during the game.

In the first half alone, the Eagles had already scored 21 points off of Eastern’s 17 turnovers.

In the second half, Eastern added 12 more turnovers and the Eagles were able to gain six more points due to turnovers.

Overall, Morehead was able to capitalize on Eastern’s 30 turnovers and score 27 points in the game because of turnovers.

Junior guard Lauren Dailey said all the turnovers were due to Eastern’s lack of focus before the game and during the game.

Dailey herself had four turnovers in 26 minutes.

“No one was focused and it resulted in a blowout,” Dailey said.

The Eagles scored 12 points off of fast breaks in the game. They had five fast breaks in the first half alone.

Junior forward Katie Meyers said it seemed like no one knew where they should have been on the court.

“Everyone has to know their role, no matter if your last off the bench or the star player, everyone has to contribute,” Meyers said.

Head coach Linda Wunder said the team just couldn’t find the right five players to get them in the game.

“We struggled to find five players that clicked together out on offense or defense and it has been very rare that we have had to seek out players,” Wunder said.

Things started off well enough for the Panthers. Only 40 seconds into the first half Dailey went in strong for a layup. Morehead forward La’Keta Wales responded right away with a layup of her own. Eastern was able to stay close with Morehead until the Eagles started pulling away with 13:39 in the first half.

The Eagles went on a 12-0 run in the first half to increase their lead against the Panthers.

Things only got worse for the Panthers.

They were able to score six points to the Eagles 13. At the end of the first half the score was Morehead leading Eastern 37-17.

The only two leads the Panthers ever held were in the first two minutes of the first half. The Eagles held the lead the rest of the game.

The Panthers came within 20 points of the Eagles only twice in the second half of the game.
