Just give Bron-Bron a break

There has been a lot made lately about a high school student showing up to school in a brand new Hummer H2, roughly worth $50,000. It just so happens this person is the future of the NBA; LeBron James, who is currently finishing his senior year at St. Vincent St. Mary’s.

While the car may be a bit excessive, three TV sets and a video game hookup are just some of the options included in the vehicle. The true controversy here is just how did an 18-year-old high school student afford this kind of vehicle.

Well, for those who were dissatisfied with their Christmas gifts, maybe you should strike up a friendship with James’ mother who didn’t want to disappoint her “Bron-Bron” this winter.

Even though it was a nice thought on his mother’s part, who wouldn’t want a brand new Hummer to unwrap in their garage?

One simple question remains; how is she able to afford this?

This is the same person who recently vented to newspaper reporters about her son still having to pay the $40 fee to park his car at high school. Of course, at that time, his car was a little less expensive than the tank he now pulls into the high school parking lot while watching highlights of himself on one, or all, of his three TV sets.

She is also a single mother who hasn’t been economically stable enough to keep her son in her household for his entire life.

But the explanation is simple, she just simply went to the bank and took out a loan with nothing to offer as collateral except for her son’s future earnings in the NBA.

While James is being investigated for the purchase, he would be in more trouble if he were to be going to college instead of straight to the NBA. He also hasn’t seemed to shaken by all of the attention.

Throughout all of this scandal surrounding the 18-year-old phenom, his clear conscience and sense of humor have seemingly stayed in tack. Case in point, his last game Tuesday night was his best this season. James filled up the stat sheet with 50 points. He also managed to quiet his critics, who believe he doesn’t possess a good jumpshot, by canning 11 shots from behind the arc.

He did all of this after driving around a much smaller, remote controlled version of his Hummer on the court before the game.

Nevertheless, James has been a little annoyed with all the contoversy surrounding this subject lately, which makes sense considering all of the people who make money off of him as he travels around the country selling out gymnasiums and showcasing his game on national television.

So why is it so wrong for a kid who knows he will be making millions of dollars in just about a year to accept a gift from his mother. Maybe he just wanted to use his future to his own advantage instead of watching everybody else use the money he is making for them.
