Velvet Jones to make debut at Friends Saturday

Friends & Company will be rocking and rolling Saturday night with the boys of local rock act, The Velvet Jones. Headlining their first show at this cozy tavern on the Square, Velvet Jones can be expected to play a vast array of songs cover songs ranging from groups such as the Ramones to the more current Stone Temple Pilots and the Black Crowes.

Relatively new to the Charleston music scene, the Velvet Jones first played Friends during a recent Wednesday open mike night that the bar hosts. Jason Kottwitz, an employee of Friends & Company, said, “These guys got a pretty good response from the crowd at open mic night. We should have a nice crowd on hand [Saturday].”

Comprised of Andy Peocia on lead vocals, Dave Fitzgerald on lead guitar, Ryan Peterson on bass and Doug French on drums, the band has only recently begun to play clubs in the Charleston music scene. Crossing from the likes of Black Sabbath to the Black Crowes within a single set, the sound of The Velvet Jones is incredibly varied and eccentric.

As the band is scheduled to take the stage at around 10 p.m., Kottowitz said it wouldn’t be a bad idea to arrive early in order to nab a comfy booth or to procure a cluster of bar stools near the elevated corner stage. The $2 cover charge is not bad at all for a night of jamming with Velvet Jones, so gather some friends and head over to Friends & Company for some classic rock covers from one of Charleston’s premeire acts.
