Intramural program enhances competition

Good morning, sports fans. Once and for all, competition is here to stay in the intramural program.

For as long as I can remember, the intramural program has been used by the greek organizations, and one or two independent teams who stuck together through every sport.

But hey, give them credit. These groups of people are the only ones who participate in intramurals on a consistent basis.

And while there is nothing wrong with either of those two things happening, the powers that be though it was time to make a little change and spice things up a little.

Starting with the intramural basketball season, the program will implement a Hall Challenge that will take care of not only the two or three independent teams and greek organizations, but everyone on campus.

“What the intramural program is trying to provide is a recreation program for the entire campus,” Intramural grad assistant Peter Shoop said. “What we saw is that it was primarily greek-based, and now we’re trying to give everyone a chance to participate.”

The nice thing about this new Hall Challenge is that it will add a little excitement to an intramural program that has been lacking in that department for some time now. The competition just hasn’t been there.

Now there will be two leagues: one for the residence halls and one for the greek organizations, in which independents can participate in either one.
