Swimmers host IUPUI

The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will face the IUPU-Indianapolis for the second time this season when they host the Jaguars at 1 p.m. at Lantz Natatorium.

The two teams faces off over a month ago, Dec. 6, where both men’s and women’s teams took wins from IUPUI. The men posted a 192-104 victory as the women crushed IUPUI with a score of 214-84.

But IUPUI swam against the Panthers after a big conference tournament and may be more prepared to face Eastern in this second round.

“We had a lot of good races, but I thought it would be a lot closer meet than it was,” head coach Raymond Padovan said. “They just were dead tired … they just hadn’t recovered.”

With the Friday afternoon starting time, Padovan and the teams have worked out class schedules and everyone will be ready to jump in the water.

“A couple of guys are going to swim their events early and [leave],”Padovan said. “They’re not going to short the team … nothing that is going to hurt us.”

The men (9-0) will be looking to continue their nine-meet winning streak while the women (7-2) will be swimming for their eight consecutive victory of the season.

With the prospect of swimming in their home pool the panthers are looking for a victory.

“I think we’re going to have a really good meet with the men,” Padovan said. “Much more so the men than the women. The men’s meet could be really, really interesting.”

Padovan also commented on how the IUPUI men’s team has good individuals and good divers, but their women’s team “aren’t quite as strong as they have been in the past.”

Last meet the Panthers were able to have roster changes and compete different swimmers in different events, but with a tougher opponent in IUPUI, Padovan doesn’t believe he will be afforded those opportunities.

“We’re going to go pretty much a straight line-up,” Padovan said. “Can’t do too much switching on off events … they’re too good of a team and we need to get back to seeing where we’re at in [our] main events.”
