Faculty Senate to make appointments to boards, choose next year’s officers

The Faculty Senate Tuesday will make faculty appointments to various university boards, and councils and will elect new senate officers for next year.

“I believe this should be the last meeting of the year, but that is up to the senate members,” said Faculty Senate Chair James Tidwell, journalism professor.

The senate will hear a report from Gary Canivez, psychology professor, about positions that need to be filled by appointment on campus councils and boards for the 2001 to 2002 term.

The full list of vacancies is available on the senate’s Web site.

Senate members also will appoint a faculty member to the search committee for the WEIU-TV station manager position.

The senate also will elect new officers for the faculty senate positions of chair, vice chair and secretary. The senate will meet in the faculty lounge of Buzzard Hall at 2 p.m.

In other business, the senate will hear updates from the vice president for business affairs and vice president for academic affairs search committees.

The vice president for academic affairs search committee has had five candidates visit Eastern for interviews, and the committee has sent recommendations forward to Eastern President Carol Surles, who will make the final decision.

The vice president for business affairs search committee is in the process of having candidates visit campus for interviews, and after the interviews are over, the committee will send forward recommendations to Surles, who will make the final decision.
