IBHE Executive director will talk with faculty senate

Keith Sanders, executive director of the Illinois Board of Higher Education, will talk with the Faculty Senate at Tuesday’s meeting.

The Faculty Senate will meet at 2 p.m. in the Journalism Lounge in Buzzard Hall.

“There is no set topic agenda for conversation, but generally people are interested in legislative issues as far as the budget, web-based education and the state funding of private institutions,” said Faculty Senate Chair James Tidwell, journalism professor.

The senate also will announce the election results of last week’s faculty elections for university committees and councils. Faculty elections took place last Wednesday and Thursday for positions on 14 different committees and councils, which included Faculty Senate and the Council on Academic Affairs.

“The announcements and Sanders will be the two biggies for the meeting,” Tidwell said. “Due to those two things we will have limited other business.”

However, the senate will seek faculty who wish to be appointed to various campus committees and councils that are appointed as opposed to elected. For a detailed list, faculty can visit the faculty senate Web site, and interested faculty should contact Gary Canivez, psychology professor.

Open positions are available on the Council of Faculty Research, Judicial Board, Library Advisory Board, Parking Advisory Committee, Parking Appeals Committee, Publications Board, Radio-Television Center Board, Textbook Rental Advisory Committee and the Enrollment Management Advisory Committee among others.
