Faculty Senate cancels meeting

Faculty Senate will not be holding a meeting today because of lack of senators able to attend.

“We were in danger of not having a quorum,” said Senate Chair James Tidwell, journalism professor. “There was nothing that the Senate was in a real rush to do.”

Tidwell said various senate members had other obligations, and the day’s business will be moved to the next scheduled meeting, March 20.

At that meeting, the senate will hear a presentation from John Label, who will speak on behalf of the EIU Foundation, Eastern’s fund raising department.

Tidwell said the presentation will include updates on fund raising activities.

In the future, the senate also is scheduled to hear from Will Hine, dean of the school of Adult and Continuing Education, Tidwell said.

Hine has proposed some reorganization of the school and will brief the Senate on his plans. Specifically, the senate is interested in the proposed changes in in the office of faculty development, Tidwell said.

In addition, the senate is scheduled to speak with Keith Sanders, executive director of the Illinois Board of Higher Education.

The speech communications department will sponsor Sanders’ trip to Eastern’s campus on April 6, and he has been scheduled to speak with the senate that day.

“It will be a unique opportunity to talk about higher education issues with a person that has a statewide perspective as well as considerable influence in the area,” Tidwell said.

The Faculty Senate normally meets in the Buzzard Faculty Lounge from 2 to 4 p.m. every Tuesday.
