When going to a restaurant there’s a lot of options on the menu. But what draws me in like no other is a burrito.
A burrito is an experience— a conversation starter.
It’s something you can bring to your family dinner and won’t get a snippy remark from the in-laws. It’s an experience of a lifetime.
Mi Casa Tu Casa has the best burrito and is the best Mexican restaurant in Charleston.
There are a lot of different styles of Mexican restaurants that are out there, your sit-down places, your food trucks, fine dining establishments and fast food.
Mi Casa Tu Casa goes for the route of the fast and casual chains recognizable in Qdoba and Chipotle.
Being able to make your own burrito is something that is nice and different from just ordering off a menu.
When customers can customize what they receive, it gives a lot more options and control.
At a sit-down place, if there’s a menu item that looks great but you don’t like a certain component, you’ll have to ask to have it removed and they might not be able to or a critical piece of the dish might be missing.
But when you’re allowed to make your own choices, you can just go around it and make your own dish.
Plus, having multiple options allows you to get creative and be different every time you go.
If you don’t want to eat a tortilla, you can get a bowl for your food. Have an aversion to cylindrical shaped foods? They have tacos that can be customized as well.
Liked the chicken last time but want to try something different? How about you have the barbacoa? I wasn’t a fan of the guacamole but enjoyed the rest of the burrito? Don’t get it next time.
There are a lot of different options for the protein: chicken, steak, pork, barbacoa, chorizo, tinga and vegetarian. You’re able to try something different every time or find your order and stick with it.
Outside of having to pay a bit extra for some protein options and more for the guac, queso and nopalitos, customers can design their meal however they want.
The menu tastes extraordinary. The burritos, bowls, tacos and their multifaceted toppings are the standout, but other options are available as well. Quesadillas and tamales are on the menu and are quite good as well.
When it comes to sides, there’s fruit and chips that you can get with salsa, queso or guacamole. They’re not as standout as the rest of the menu, but they’re still good.
The customizability of your options does come at a sacrifice of options. The menu isn’t as expansive as you would want it to be if it were any other style of restaurant.
If you were looking for tortas or fajitas, they won’t be found here. But if you are coming here for something that is on the menu, you’re in luck because it’s good.
When it comes to drinks, there is an issue, though. You can only get what’s bottled in their fridge, and while the soda options are good, they usually add a lot to your final total at the register.
Price is the main issue when it comes to Mi Casa Tu Casa. The prices aren’t horrible when you first start your order, but they start to add up.
The cheapest menu options when it comes to protein are the chicken and vegetarian options. Both are coming in at $9.75.
A drink costs anywhere from $2-3; a small bag of chips by themselves costs only $1.85 but in larger sizes and with different dips can get up to $9.
There are toppings that you have to pay for that vary in price, but those add to the price as well.
It’s not impossible to eat for cheap. But unless you’re getting the most out of the deals they have and skipping out on a drink and some queso, it might be difficult.
Other restaurants have their upsides. Juanito’s is a good sit-down place and offers a good atmosphere and a good menu with multiple different options.
But being able to run to grab a burrito on the fly or sit down and enjoy a conversation without having to go through all the steps of ordering from a sit-down restaurant is nice in a restaurant in a college town.
Mi Casa Tu Casa gets four and a half burritos with everything on them out of five.
