Family Weekend to invite families over Halloween weekend

Eastern is hosting the 2022 Family Weekend on Friday and Saturday with multiple events over the two days.

Eastern welcomes families to campus this weekend to celebrate Family Weekend starting Friday.

The weekend will begin on Friday with a check-in from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the EIU Bookstore Lobby located in the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union.  

The night’s events include Family Bingo in the grand ballroom featuring University President David Glassman and Rock ‘n’ Bowl at the Eastern’s bowling lanes. 

Both events will take place in the MLK Jr. Union from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. 

Other activities on Friday are the L&A Family Haunted Corn Maze in Paris, Ill. Busses to the corn maze will depart at 6:30 p.m. and will cost $10 per person and $8 for students.  

The L&A Family Corn Maze will also be open on Saturday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.  

On Saturday, another check-in will take place for arrivals from 8 a.m. to noon, and a family breakfast with Glassman from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. 

The morning activities that follow are a photo shoot for family and friends and a Legos station outside of Booth Library where families are invited to stop by and let their imagination have fun. Both events are from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

During these events, a Family Fun Fest with creation stations, trackless train rides and the Kona Ice truck will also take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

Booth Library will host a Scary Story Time and Family Reading outside near the north entrance from 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. 

Kickoff for the Eastern football game will be at 2 p.m. at O’Brien Stadium where they will play against Tennessee Tech.  

The weekend’s events continue with Adventure EI-Boo.

This activity is an on-campus Halloween themed adventure where teams of four solve clues, trivia and take selfies.  

Adventure EI-Boo! will take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. 

Family Weekend ends with a Hot Chocolate Bar in the Library Quad from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and more family bowling at the Eastern lanes from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
