The 2022 outdoor track season is underway, and the Eastern men’s and women’s track and field teams will host the EIU Big Blue Classic Friday at O’Brien Field.

The men’s team opened its season last weekend, competing in the Raleigh Relays on March 24 and March 25. The Big Blue Classic will be the first outdoor meet for the women’s team.

In Raleigh, Eastern standouts Jaime Marcos and Dustin Hatfield had solid outings.

Marcos finished 17th in the men’s 10,000 meter with a time of 30:08.78. Hatfield set yet another school record, this time 13:53.21 in the men’s 5,000 meter, good for a second-place finish in the event.

The men’s team is entering the outdoor season looking to defend its championship, having won the OVC Outdoor Championships last season.

The women’s team placed fourth in that event and is coming off a sixth-place finish in the OVC Indoor Championship last month. The men placed second in the Indoor Championship.

The field events will get underway at 11 a.m. Friday with the track events beginning 4 p.m.
