Eastern President David Glassman sent a new email Friday night updating students on changes to the plans sent out Thursday evening.

The changes are in response to the “Stay-At-Home” order given by Governor J.B. Pritzker Friday afternoon.

Glassman emphasized the information given in the Friday email invalidates the information in the Thursday email and that more emails will come from the university containing more specific information about university business moving forward.

Students

Students who need to collect educational support materials from their on-campus residence will need to schedule a time through the Housing and Dining Office to do so and those who do will not be allowed to stay in their residence overnight.

Instructions for doing so will be communicated through the Housing and Dining office.

Students who come to collect items should not come with the intention of moving out of their university housing as the Housing and Dining Office will reach out to schedule a move out time with students.

Students who need to return to living in their on-campus residency will still be able to do so if the university deems the reason valid and should contact the Housing and Dining Office at [email protected] for a form to petition the university to remain living on campus.

For those concerned about returning textbooks at the end of the semester, returns will occur at the end of the semester via a drop-off at the Textbook Rental Service or by mailing the books back with instructions that will be given at a later date.

Faculty, Librarians and Student Academic Support Services

All university faculty will be paid throughout the term and will not be required to use accrued leave while the order from the Pritzker is active.

Faculty and staff who have the proper tools to educate from home should do so.

Those who need resources in their department may still travel to work under Pritzker’s executive order, as well as those faculty or researchers with critical research initiatives so they can access their assigned laboratory facilities.

Booth Library will be working virtually until March 30 when they will begin their limited service.

Staff

All university staff will be paid throughout the term and will not be required to use accrued leave while the order from the Pritzker is active.

Eastern’s administration is reviewing whether there are employees who will be assigned to work from home aside from those who have already begun doing so.

Supervisors will contact employees individually if they will need to work from home.

Glassman said he encourages the Eastern community to check university emails frequently and Eastern’s website for more updates.
