Know before you vote: Last minute Election Day tips

The General Primary Election for 2018 will be on Tuesday.

Each voter must vote at his/her precinct polling place.

Voting starts at 6 a.m. Tuesday and ends at 7 p.m. that evening.

To register to vote on Election Day, voters have to:

  • Appear in person at one of the designated locations for registration and voting
  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Be 18 or older
  • Have been a resident of the precinct for 30 days
  • Provide two forms of ID, one of which has the voter’s address

Electioneering is not allowed in any polling places or any area within 100 feet of any polling place.

In this case, electioneering is defined as “working in support of, against or in opposition to, or in the interest of a candidate, party, or proposition” according to Illinois State Board of Elections.

Electioneering includes any political discussion, wearing a campaign shirt, button, hat, or displaying or distributing any political literature or brochure. However, sample ballots may be taken into the polling place.
