Auditions set for Thursday for Vagina Monologues

Auditions for this year’s production of “The Vagina Monologues” are set for Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Phipps Lecture Hall of the Physical Science building.

Another set of auditions will be on Jan. 15 at 6 p.m. in Jackson Avenue Coffee.

Performances of the play will benefit Housing, Outreach, Prevention and Education of East Central Illinois and Sexual Assault Counseling and Information Service.

According to a press release, auditions will involve short readings.

“The Vagina Monologues” has been published in 45 languages and performed in over 120 countries.

Eastern’s production is a part of V-Day, which is a global movement to end gendered violence.

The press release states that V-Day promotes creative events to “increase awareness, raise money and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations.”

“V-Day generates broader attention for the fight to stop all forms of gendered violence, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation and sex trafficking,” the press release said.
