Two overtimes were not enough to decide Saturday’s match between the Eastern women’s soccer team and Tennessee Tech, as the pair of Ohio Valley Conference teams played to a 2-2 draw in Cookeville, Tenn.

Originally scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday, heavy rains canceled the match, turning the Panthers’ weekend road trip schedule of matches on Friday and Sunday to back-to-back matches on Saturday and Sunday.

Tennessee Tech, which entered the match winless in the OVC, got on the board first off a corner kick from freshman defender Mary Francis Hoots in the ninth minute. Junior Taylor Blazei was credited with the assist.

The Panthers responded with two goals from senior forward Madison Carter.

Carter got her first goal in the 16th minute, then followed it up with her second in the 32nd minute. Hannah Miller assisted on both goals.

Eastern went into halftime with a 2-1 lead, but Tennessee Tech responded in the 62nd minute with a goal from Tarah Piccirilli.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in two periods of overtime.

Tennessee Tech outshot the Panthers 32-21. Carter led the Panthers with six shots. Senior Meagan Radloff had four. Blazei led the Golden Eagles with six.

Junior goalkeeper Emilly Hinton faced 14 shots on goal, making 12 saves for the Panthers. Tennessee Tech’s Rebecca Toler made five saves.

The tie gives the Panthers and Golden Eagles each one point in the OVC standings. The Panthers currently have four points, while the Golden Eagles have just one. Southern Illinois-Edwardsville is currently in first place with 12 points. Morehead State is in second with 10. Tennessee-Martin and Murray State each have nine. Jacksonville State, Southeast Missouri and Austin Peay each have six.

Belmont is currently in front of Eastern with five points. The top six teams make the OVC tournament.

The Panthers take on Jacksonville State at 1 p.m. Sunday in Jacksonville, Ala.
