Connie’s Pizza replaced by Freschetta

At the beginning of the school year, students looking to eat at Connie’s Pizza could no longer find it in the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union.

Eastern made the switch over to Freschetta Pizza in the Union this fall.

Sandy Black, the Unit Director of the University Food Court, said Connie’s Pizza discontinued some of the pizza that Eastern usually purchased from them.

“They were a special item, and our vendor does not carry the Connie’s Pizza,” Black said. “Before we changed this summer, we had a bunch of taste-testing of different pizzas from the students and the customers that were in the food court.”

Black said the crowd they surveyed preferred the Freschetta Pizza 10-to-2.

“The feedback has been really positive,” she said.

Black said the process of changing from Connie’s to Freschetta included talking to Eastern’s Connie’s representative.

“It was a smooth process, though,” she said. “It all went really well.”

Black said the crust on the new pizza is self-rising, whereas the Connie’s Pizza was not.

“It’s been a good change,” she said.

Eric Drake, a graduate student and an employee of the University Food Court, said they received good feedback on the change.

“I’ve heard people saying they like it more,” he said.
