Parrodi leads Panthers

The Eastern men’s golf team wrapped up competition at the DePaul Fall Invitational this past weekend. The team was led by senior Gino Parrodi, who finished in 11th place. Parrodi, the Mexico native, finished with a 225, tying for 19th place. The DePaul Fall Invite had a field of 78 other competitors and was held on the Par 72 Ruffled Feathers Course in Lemont.

Parrodi shot rounds of 77, 73 and 75 in the two day event. The only other Panther who finished in the top 25 in the event was senior David Lawrence. Lawrence is coming off a first place finish at the Wasioto Winds Fall Kickoff, in which the team finished in fourth out of 12 other competing teams.

Parrodi finished nine-over-par, while Lawrence finished 11-over-par. Lawrence finished the event tied for 22nd place, while shooting a 227 overall.

Three other Panthers competed in the event, with junior Tommy Ponce, senior Sean Dozier and freshman James Jansen finishing in 54th, 58th and 64th.

As a team, the Panthers finished in eighth place out of 12 teams. Florida Gulf Coast finished in first place overall, with a team score of 873. The Panthers had a team score of 928. Eastern beat out Ohio Valley Conference foe, Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. The Cougars finished in a tie for 13th place with Marquette.

The individual winner was Emilio Cuartero of Missouri, who finished with a total score of 213, finishing three-under-par.

The team will now have one final fall competition, taking on the Southern Illinois-Edwardsville Cougars, among others, at the SIU-Edwardsville Fall Invitational, starting on Oct. 24 and finishing on Oct. 25. The event will be at the Sunset Hills Country Club Golf Course.

Around the OVC

Eastern Kentucky, Austin Peay and Murray State will all be competing at the Bearcat Invitational, hosted by Cincinnati, which began on Monday. The invitational will feature 14 other teams including Kentucky, Oakland, Georgetown, Marshall and Bowling Green.

Jacksonville State will compete at the Austin Peay Intercollegiate on the Links at Novadell in Hopkinsville, Ky., this weekend. The Gamecocks are coming off of a fifth place finish at the Squire Creek Invitational. Senior Tim Robinson finished in a tie for third place to lead the team.

Morehead State placed fifth out of 14 teams at the Murray State Invitational at the Miller Memorial Golf Course, hosted by Murray State, also of the OVC. The host Murray State finished first in the event.

Also competing at the Murray State Invitational was Tennessee State. The Tigers placed sixth at the event our of 14 teams. They will compete next at the Austin Peay Intercollegiate.

On Monday, the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles began play at the Skyhawk Classic at the Paris Landing State Park, hosted by Tennessee-Martin. After that competition, the Golden Eagles will compete at another OVC hosted event, the Austin Peay Intercollegiate. The Austin Peay Intercollegiate will wrap up the fall season for Tennessee Tech.
