Senate to discuss ‘Writing Across the Curriculum’

Eastern’s writing-intensive graduation requirement will be discussed at the faculty senate meeting at 2 p.m. today in the Booth Library Conference Room.

Senate members will discuss implementing a Writing Across the Curriculum program, which, upon approval, will necessitate that all core curriculum classes alter their syllabi to be considered as writing-intensive courses.

According to the Web page for the Writing Across the Curriculum program, the primary goal of the program committee is to serve as a resource for instructors wishing to incorporate and more effectively utilize writing in their classrooms.

The committee also intends to facilitate the use of the Electronic Writing Portfolio that students must submit work to for every 30 hours completed in classes from a list of writing-intensive or writing-centered courses prior to graduating.

Senate members will also discuss plans to foster academic programs at the Renewable Energy Center.
