Charleston Mayor John Inyart announced he will run for a second term in the city’s spring elections.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my first term as Charleston’s mayor,” Inyart said in a press release. “While the job can be overwhelming at times, having a professional staff on which to rely, and utilizing today’s technology has made the job manageable.”

Inyart cited several of the city’s accomplishments during his term as mayor upon his announcement. He includes the economic stability of the city, the full incorporation of the city manager-council form of government and improved internal and external communications with surrounding bodies as some of his term’s most noted accomplishments.

The image of Charleston and improved public safety are also highlights in Inyart’s announcement, explaining that over his four year term he has helped approve the renovation of several city streets and the facelift of City Hall as well as a return of a fully staffed fire and police departments.

“I’ve made decisions based on what I feel is best for the overall health of our community,” he said. “I’d like the opportunity to continue in the role of mayor if it’s the desire of the voters.”

Council member Jim Dunn is seeking re-election as well.
