New president to be named next week

The new university president will be formally introduced at a Board of Trustees meeting during the week of April 9.

Robert Webb, president of the Presidential Search Committee, said there would be a news conference and a public reception to help introduce the new president.

The chosen candidate is currently undergoing contract negotiations.

“Obviously, to be able to announce a new president, that’s what we’re going to be doing,” Webb said.

Sue Kiefer Hammersmith was in Charleston March 22 and 23 for on-campus interviews.

Hammersmith is the provost and vice chancellor of adademic affairs at the University of Wisconson-Green Bay.

Blair Lord had his on-campus interviews March 18-19.

Lord is Eastern’s provost and vice president for academic affairs.

William Perry is the vice provost and a professor of mathematics at Texas A&M University in College Station.

Current university President Lou Hencken announced his retirement last August. His contract expires June 30.
