AMP to return summer funds

Amp Magazine (LINK: www.eiuamp.com) received approval of two line item transfers in order to buy promotional T-shirts at Thursday night’s Apportionment Board meeting.

AB had to approve the shirts due to a bylaw that mandates all clothing expenditures must be approved by the board.

The board then took a five-minute recess because of confusion in the line item numbers. Levi Bulgar, AB chair and student vice president for business affairs, explained because of the new Banner system, the line items changed. The transfer needed to go to the wearing apparel account. But before Banner, it would have been classified under the promotional account.

“It didn’t change the vote, and it didn’t change the decision,” Bulgar said. “We (AB) just had to change the (account) number. It was a little bit of a mix-up.”

Amp Magazine is the University Board publication that covers its events and other Eastern organizations events.

Usually there are five issues published a year, but this year only four will publish. There was no August/September issue. The first issue will publish in October.

“There was not enough staff staying in Charleston over the summer,” said Nicole DeToye, Amp editor in chief. “Two summers ago, three of us stayed in Charleston to work on the August/September issue. However, that wasn’t possible this past summer.”

With Amp not coming out for the summer issue, it will return money to AB for funds budgeted for summer. Nearly $4,300 will be given back to AB.

“What we will be getting back will be helpful, because when we have other people come up for additional allocations, we will have a little bit more to work with,” Bulgar said. “And obviously they (Amp) kept their end of the bargain.

“They didn’t come out with that summer issue, so their giving some money back.”

The line item transfers will now be sent to Student Senate for final approval.
