Organizers face little budget when planning Latino Heritage Month

With September being Latino Heritage Month, Eastern has scheduled a number of events to celebrate this important culture.

“With a very little budget we have organized this year’s Banquet, lectures, movie showings, music events, hands-on workshops, even religious ceremonies, all related to Latinos in the United States and

Latin America,” commented Dr. Jose Deustua, chair of the Latino American Studies.

Deustua is very proud of the work the university has done to celebrate Latino Heritage Month. “Latino Heritage is not just about the past, but above all about the present,” He said. Deustua especially thinks Latino heritage is important because of the recent immigration issues the US has been facing.

Diana Ruiz, President of the Latin American Students Organization, believes that Latino Heritage Month is important for everyone to celebrate.

“I believe the Latino Heritage Month is not only for Latino’s but to help diversify and educate our campus. All of the events are open for anyone to come and join us, it is a celebration of the Latino culture, and we would like to share it with everyone,” Said Ruiz.
