Greek Week:Greek Sing

On April 2, 2006, the packed gym in Lantz buzzed with excitement. Greek Sing Co-chairs, Jessica Natale and Patrick Sweeney, started the 55th annual show at 1 p.m. The judges, seated at the front of the auditorium, included, Marilyn Coles, John Dulaney, Katie Kellogg, Elise Killewald, and Patricia Poulter.

A moment of silence was held in remembrance of the Eastern student who died over spring break, Glorivette Alegria. The Co-chairs then announced each fraternity and sorority and their standings in the Greek Week competition. Each announcement was met with bursts of cheers from different sides of the gym.

The Unity Choir, directed by Robyn Paige, started off the singing with the National Anthem and the Alma Mater.

Nine sororities and eight fraternities participated in the event. Their songs ranged anywhere from “Cheeseburger in Paradise” to “Borderline” to “Boogie Fever” and many more. Some songs produced clapping and stomping from the crowded bleachers.

The winners of the Greek Sing competition for the fraternities were Sigma Phi Epsilon in first place, Sigma Nu in second place, Sigma Chi in third place, and Pi Kappa Alpha in fourth place. The winners for the sororities included, Kappa Delta in first place, Alpha Sigma Alpha in second place, Sigma Sigma Sigma in third place, and Alpha Gamma Delta in fourth place.

Scott Kasanda, member of the Lamba Chi Alpha fraternity, when asked what his thoughts were on the Greek Sing replied: “I think it’s great how the Greek society can come together and compete against each other and at the end of the day it doesn’t matter who wins because everyone supports each other.”
