Residence Halls scare up some fun for local children

Halloween is coming up, and Eastern is preparing to partake in the holiday festivities with Residence Hall Trick-or-Treating.

Trick-or-Treating will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. on Sunday in various residence halls around campus.

Different residence halls will be treating the event differently, said Todd Kleine, a resident director in Carman Hall.

The staff of Carman will dress up in costumes, and the halls and lounges will be decorated for Halloween, Kleine said. Students have signed up with their resident assistants to allow kids to come to their doors during trick-or-treating.

RAs in costumes will wait in the lobby and take the kids up to different floors to collect candy, Kleine said. The doors that want trick-or-treaters will be adorned with little jack-o-lantern cutouts.

Kids will “go through and get as much candy as they want,” he said.

There will also be candy at the front desk.

“A lot of female residents are especially excited,” Kleine said.

Thomas Hall is also welcoming trick-or-treaters.

The lobby will be decorated for Halloween, and five or six members of the Thomas Hall Executive Board will be sharing ghost stories with the trick-or-treaters until they accumulate groups, said Kael Rewers, president of Thomas Hall Council.

“(The executive board) will take the kids trick-or-treating up and down the hallways,” Rewers said.

Ford Hall will also host its share of festivities.

“There will be a Halloween Party on Friday,” Resident Director Devin Heisner said.

It will include games like witch bingo, a mini haunted house and a costume contest, he said.

Taylor Hall traditionally has its Halloween events in the lobby, because it is hard to find people on the floors who are willing to participate in trick-or-treating activities, especially when there are male and female floors in each tower, said Margaret Bookie, president of Taylor Hall Council.

“We are giving out candy and doing games and face painting in the lobby,” Bookie said.

Andrews Hall and Ford Hall are also having Halloween festivities on Sunday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
