New scholarship Web site to be accessible next month

Student Government is planning for a new Web site allowing Eastern students to locate scholarship information online to be working by the end of next month.

Currently, a student seeking scholarship information has to fill out an information form at the Student Activities Center. It usually took about two weeks for students to receive scholarship results because so many requests were filed, said Amanda Sartore, student vice president for academic affairs.

The Web site will give students direct access to a scholarship database.

“Since academics is our top priority, it only makes sense we have something like this that makes it easy for people to get money to go here,” Sartore said.

When students log onto the Web site, they will be able to enter information about themselves and receive instant scholarship results.

For example, a student can enter his or her year in school in order to view all applicable scholarships. A student’s major, grade point average, specific semester or specific scholarship title can also be entered into the database for matching results.

Though the site is not yet in its final version, Sartore said everything is practically complete before it has be approved by administration.

Last semester, Sartore planned to link the scholarship Web site to the Student Government Web site.

“We might put it on the student government’s page or maybe on Eastern’s mainpage,” she said. “I would rather it be on the mainpage so it is even more accessible for the students.”

The Web site was created for free during the summer by Chat Chatterji, associate vice president for technology at Information Technology Services.
